Grab Your Bag … It’s On

The programs are printed, the speakers are booked, the special events are planned, and the boots are packed.  Grab your bag, NFCA members, because the Annual Meeting is on.

I’m looking forward to seeing the nearly 350 members and guests registered for this year’s meeting in San Antonio later this week.  I’ve met so many of you over the past 12 months that I suspect the event will feel a little like a family reunion.  And that’s what makes our industry so unique.  We care about the members we serve and the people we help as much as we care about the bottom line.  Not every business can make that claim.

While we’re in San Antonio, we’re going to join forces to paint the interior and landscape the grounds of the Family Service Association (FSA), one of Texas’ oldest and most respected charitable organizations whose funding has been frozen as the state deals with the budget crisis that is gripping the nation.  Without the help of NFCA members, worthy social service agencies like FSA simply couldn’t provide the services needed by so many in the community.

We’re also going to learn in general sessions and workshops how to run our organizations more efficiently and effectively, because we can do a lot more good works when we have the funds to finance local lodge initiatives and memberships that are actively engaged in volunteer activities.

There also will be plenty of time for networking with peers in Section and committee meetings, receptions and dinners, and late-night conversations on the plaza overlooking San Antonio’s famous River Walk.

If you can’t be there this year, mark your calendar for the 2010 Annual Meeting, September 9-11, in Chicago.  We’ll post as many of the PowerPoint presentations, videos and audios of the various educational sessions from this year’s meeting as possible on the NFCA Web site next week, so those of you unable to attend will still have a chance to benefit from the outstanding information provided to members at the meeting.

And for those of you who will be joining us, I’d like to hear what you think of the meeting – what’s good, what we need to improve, and what we need to add for next year.  We want to do everything we can to enhance the value of your membership in the NFCA.  And we need your feedback in order to provide you the types of products and services that fit your needs.  So don’t be bashful about sharing your views with me in San Antonio.

Hasta la vista, baby…
