Brand Camp… As you know, NFCA has been doing extensive work on its own brand – the membership will consider a proposal to adopt American Fraternal Alliance as the new name of the association at next month’s Annual Meeting in Chicago – and in the process, we’ve discovered that a number of member societies are also seriously considering overhauling their organization’s brand identity.  In fact, we conducted a complimentary NFCA Webinar on this very topic - Does Your Society Need to Overhaul Its Identity? last Tuesday, which you can replay for free.

National Military Family Association Update… Last week we e-mailed a Bulletin to over 1,300 member society representatives announcing the good news about the NFCA Board’s decision to adopt a resolution to support the National Military Family Association’s (NMFA) “Operation Purple” summer-camp program for the children of our men and women serving in the armed forces.  We’ve received a number of inquiries from members wanting more information about the NMFA and its “Operation Purple” program, and how they can participate in this campaign.  Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions about NMFA:

  • The NMFA is organized as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt association.
  • Based on the most recent audited financial statements, 92% of contributions go to cover program costs and only 8% go to cover overhead.
  • For “Operation Purple,” 95% of contributions cover program costs and only 5% go to pay for overhead expenses.
  • NMFA earned a 4-star (highest) rating from Charity Navigator now for seven consecutive years – a distinction attained by 2% of U.S. charities – for fiscal responsibility in applying donations towards our mission.
  • NMFA meets all 20 standards for Charity Accountability set by the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance.
  • NMFA holds an “A+” rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy.
  • NMFA holds the seal for highest level of charity transparency from nonprofit information service GuideStar USA.

NMFA Executive Director Joyce Raezer will be delivering a presentation at the NFCA Annual Meeting on September 10.  I urge those of you who will be attending the meeting to listen to Joyce’s inspirational message and to get behind this tremendous program.  National campaigns in which all fraternals participate are one of the best ways to build our brand and establish ourselves as organizations that enhance the quality of life in the U.S.

And speaking of support for the military… Take a look at this STORY and NEWS RELEASE on a terrific program organized by the Greek Catholic Union.  I know there are many more of these programs out there and would love to hear about them.  I also think that programs like this can work hand-in-glove with our support for a national partner like the NMFA.
